More than just Skiing at the Sport Hotels Resort & Spa in Andorra

This winter, the Sport Hotels Resort & Spa, a collection of three luxury hotels in the Andorran Pyrenees, is offering ski bunnies, gourmet enthusiasts, spa goers and adrenalin junkies the ideal base from which to indulge in their passion.

Michelin Starred chef, Nandu Jubany takes over the realm from Carles Geig, the hotels summer chef, and is cooking up a storm, whilst the launch of the 2013 spa menu includes revolutionary new treatments by Valmont and Payot, sure to excite even the most seasoned spa goers. For those who prefer to indulge in outdoor activities, the hotel is connected to the main gondola station which will whisk you to 2,250m and offers over 205km of groomed pistes, and for those wanting to take it one step further, must try the ultimate in daredevil activities, scuba diving below the ice at one of Andorra’s altitude lakes.

Scuba Diving 2,000m above Sea Level

The collection’s five star property, the Sport Hotel Hermitage & Spa, is the only luxury hotel in Andorra to offer direct access to the mountains via the Grandvalira Soldeu gondola. From here guests can explore the region on skis, snow mobiles or dog sled, alternatively swap the warm weather gear for a wet suit and dive deep into the mountain lakes. The experience is called Diving Vallnord and is open to everyone. Initiation takes place in a man made reservoir where guests are taught the basics, once mastered guests then snowshoe to Lake Tristaina, which originates from a glacier 2,305m high and 23m deep, to take the plunge and discover a whole new side to the Andorrran Pyrenees.

Spa Therapy

Well-being is a way of life in the Andorra and this is certainly evident at the Sport Hotel Hermitage, which is home to the largest luxury wellness spa. Spread across 5 floors and incased in floor to ceiling glass windows with stunning Alpine views, guests are encouraged to spend long periods of time relaxing and unwinding in the state of the art saunas, steam rooms and hydrotherapy pools.  Before indulging in this year’s newest revolutionary treatments from Payot, Valmont and the hotels own brand ‘Signature by Soldeu’.

·         CRY-O is a new anti-cellulite treatment based on cryotherapy. CRY-O is a recognized medical treatment based on the application of cold pressure on affected areas, which starts a degradation process of the selected cells in a pain-free, effective manner

·         DEEPHEAT is a process that uses radio frequency to heat the skins layers and stimulate the production and growth of collagen, thereby effectively tightening the skin to give a smoother and younger appearance.

·         SKINLIGHT is a new multifunctional facial treatment that uses non-invasive light therapy to improve the appearance of skin and reduce wrinkles and skin pigmentations.

Gourmet Delights

Located only two and half hours from Barcelona, the Sport Hotel Hermitage is in the heart of the Catalan gourmet region, with a plethora of Michelin starred restaurants in the area it is no surprise that the hotels head chef, Nandu Jubany, owns his own one starred restaurant in the region. During the winter months Nandu is in charge of the hotels two restaurants – Origen which serves wholesome, gourmet dishes and Arrels which focuses on traditional Catalan cooking.

A favourite après ski spot for guests is the hotel’s ‘Villager Tapas & Wine Bar’, which has undergone a complete refurbishment, and re-brand and will now offer the ideal place to while away the afternoon dining on exquisite tapas and sharing plates and an extensive local wine menu.

  • Nightly rates at the five star Sport Hotel Hermitage start from €361 (approx. £300) based on two sharing on a B&B basis, excluding 4.5% taxes – Half-board supplement €50
  • Nightly rates at the four star Sport Hotel Village start from €185 (approx. £150) based on two sharing on a B&B basis, excluding 4.5% taxes – Half-board supplement €22
  • Nightly rates at the four star Sport Hotel start from €135 (approx. £110) based on two sharing on a B&B basis, excluding 4.5% taxes – Half-board supplement €22

Children up to 5 when sharing with parents can stay on a complimentary basis. A child supplement is charged for children from 6-11 years old
