Private Members’ Club and Restaurant opens in South Kensington

November 2011 saw London’s most anticipated launch take place following a £2.4 million refit overseen by designer George Rose. Located in a classic Georgian town house in South Kensington (3 Cromwell Road), exclusive new members’ club Dorsia saw royalty to rock star celebrate its launch with gusto. Named after the fictional restaurant in the cult film American Psycho, Dorsia is the brainchild of Fraser Carruthers.

The basement has been transformed into a lavish private members’ club that is itself divided into several very different and eclectically designed spaces, including a hidden VIP room boasting London’s first honesty bar. The ground floor is an equally opulent bar, again members only, whilst the 40-seater restaurant is located on the first floor.

The restaurant offers a stunning view over the Natural History Museum with floor to ceiling bay windows. Original wall and ceiling features are picked out in gold, while a large chandelier in the centre of the room highlights the four metre high ceiling and overall grandness. Period features have been lovingly restored but are now complemented by contemporary, quirky touches and a fabulous series of changing artworks courtesy of Whisper Art Gallery.

Chef Alexander Baillieu has crafted a menu of Modern European dishes made with the freshest and most seasonal locally sourced organic ingredients.

Dorsia’s cocktail menu has been designed by two of Europe’s leading mixologists, multi award-winners Thomas Gillgren (Sketch) and Fredrik Olsson (Kosmopol), who aside from mixing it for the world’s glitterati, are also both Directors of the Chelsea Academy of Bartending.

Dorsia captures the style, sophistication and luxurious decadence of a bygone era, at the same time imbuing it with a contemporary, cutting edge feel. In the lead up to both the Queen’s Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic Games being held in London this year, this quintessentially English venue is the perfect location to party, dine, hire for private events or hold photo shoots. With its location in the heart of South Kensington, Dorsia is the Best of British in every sense.
